Co-Founder & CEO, Sterling has extensive experience as an entrepreneur, leading start-ups and building solutions for long-standing unsolved problems.
Sterling began his career in data analytics as an actuary in management consulting. His experience in data and client relationships, coupled with his passion for entrepreneurship in the hospitality industry, led him to establish Chowly.
When running into problems getting his mobile ordering app off the ground in 2014, Sterling set out to solve the broader challenge he and many other apps faced: POS Integration. Realizing the bigger players like Grubhub and DoorDash were struggling to streamline their processes, he started Chowly in 2015 to make it easier for small and mid-sized restaurants to leverage the best-in-class technologies they needed to succeed. “We realized this wasn’t just broken for us; it was holding the entire restaurant industry back.” Today restaurants use Chowly’s integration system to increase revenue, improve operational flow, and save on labor costs.
Sterling currently serves on the President’s Club of FSTEC, Advisory Council of RTN, Venture Partner at Emerging Venture Capital, and is an active angel investor in early-stage restaurant technology startups. He’s also co-hosted and frequently appears on the Hospitality Hangout, Tech Chef, and Kitchen Obsessed podcasts. And was recently named one of QSR Magazine’s “21 Digital Disruptors Shaping Restaurants in 2022.”
In his spare time, you can catch Sterling hiking 14ers in Colorado, snowboarding with his wife Lea, and obsessing over the Chicago Bears.

In a previous life as an Operations Project Manager, Joe put his intense curiosity to work to learn the many different ways complex businesses can operate as efficiently as possible. A background in the vast and complicated construction industry made Joe comfortable managing multimillion dollar projects with 50+ team members under his supervision. He soon discovered the importance of producing reliable results at manageable costs.
With an entrepreneurial and competitive spirit, Joe brought this experience to Chowly as the start-up’s first hire. As a first-of-its-kind service, Chowly has required experimentation with many different modes of operation. Joe has led this iterative process to create the efficient and scalable model that clients have come to depend on. He has since built and managed the Operations team to support this model with an atmosphere of structure, collaboration, and result driven processes.

Max has a wealth of experience in finance and accounting roles at SaaS, technology, and other companies of varying sizes. Max has been the CFO for two private-equity owned SaaS/service companies that were successfully sold and has led financial due diligence/post-acquisition integration for over twenty acquisitions.
Max is a data driven executive that is adapt at drilling down to the details on finance and business issues.
